Perhaps a Bavaria 49? I am also curious to know the yard and model. It is odd for a boat to simply break up in heavy seas. But some are particularly lightly built, and increasingly used for Ocean service when really they ought not to be.

I'm more interested to know their tactics at the time...
25ft sea's and 40kt winds don't usually break up boats like that... were they still trying to battle the sea's.. were they hove to.. or laying ahull... also a more accurate fix on their location when TSHTF...

Do any of you Brits know how/where to find the UK Ships Registry on line? I have searched for it but have never been able to find it. That would answer a bunch of questions.

If they're SSR (most likely) you won't get in there.. only access the application forms.. UK Ship Register
Now if they were 'Blue Book' as was.. the Lloyds Shipping Registry is the site to search...

The coast guard pages don't seem to include a location fix. Just had a thought though. The Tilda Kosan was in the English channel on 04/18/14 and the Blue Pearl went down on 04/24/14. The Cape Mathilda was almost as close to the Blue Pearl as the Tilda Kosan, so if we can look up the destination ports for those two ships, we can find the point where the routes cross each other. Should be within horseshoes/handgrenades plus or minus the probability that they won't be straight shot routes.

Also need the port of origin for the Cape Mathilde. Think it was Columbia? Guess I'll have to go Googling now...

Edit: I Google fast. Have the Cape Mathilde at 19.59, 67.01 on 04/20 (Just north of point between Dominican Republic and San Juan).

The Grenada FB group says it was a 50ft Beneteau en route to the Azores, my sympathy for their loss. I think the storm out there was much larger than 40kn and 25 foot seas a few days ago.
