This is becoming a problem at sea, more and more vessels are being fitted with ECDIS, with the auto pilot hooked into the ECDIS. Lots of watchkeepers get fixated with their own vessel following track. It also, IMHO, leads to poor watchkeeping, with the OOW relying on the ECDIS/autopilot to drive the ship, and
AIS and
radar alarms to warn of other traffic.
I did once suugest to my company that if they fitted keyboards and mouse at the bridge windows, there would be a a better chance of the OOW looking out of them.
