Banning knives onboard.

This is what can happen when accountants and lawyers manage ship operations.

Different knives for different reasons and I usually dive with a chisel tip dive knife, but sometimes you need a pointy end when spear fishing.

Re: Banning knives onboard.

In an environment so rich in REAL safety hazards, to deny knives to ship's crews is pretty silly. Wonder how those bean counters would react to a swabbie who shaved with a straight razor? I know some who have done so, and their heads were still attached to their bodies (not that I would attempt this act!).

I was really sad when I lost my Spyerco sheep's foot knife overboard a few years back. Gotta get another one of these days...

Re: Banning knives onboard.

Next we’ll have background checks and three day waiting periods to buy a knife. We’ll need to get a concealed carry permit for a pocket knife. Open carry? Forget it.

My father gave me my first pocket knife, a little Case, when I turned six. I really feel undressed without a knife now. Keys, wallet, knife always with me.

Nothing wrong or dangerous about a sheeps foot blade. I carried a Case electricians knife for years and never missed the point.

A rigging knife is a must have tool to open shakels and be able to cut a rope if required for safety or doing some rigging work. Also while diving a knife is a must have. On shore a pocket knife is very usefull to open bottles ot peel fruits, in the remoter forests I would carry a hunting knife just in case...

I would opt for those where the blade can be locked... You probably wont need a machete in urban environments...
