Give the guy a break! Every time he tried to sail his boat over land, the boat would not cooperate and would get stuck. They sure don't build boats like they used to.

Arrested for failing to appear in court on a (unrelated) assault charge.

Whilst clearly an idiot - IMO he should be left to own devices to sink or swim. If others want to spend time, risk lives and spend money on rescuing him in the future then that is up them (the same as for everyone else).

The last thing we want in the UK is the jackboot of officialdom involved in keeping us "safe" . Just have to look elsewhere in the world (no names ) to see where that leads........

Funny. When I lived in the UK, the inflated presence of big brother and it's police state was palpable.

I guess with 60% taxes, they gotta spend it somehow.

How long until someone here defends him with an argument such as:

Hey guys, stop attacking him! He's out there doing it!

Yes - I agree that officialdom should stay on land, but I wonder what would happen if the coasties simply said "your limit is up, and you're on your own" ... (or if they could even do that legally). Seems unlikely ...

Re: Arrested for bad seamanship

San Francisco has its own version of Captain Calamity.
His nickname is Hot Rod and his boat's name is the Flyin' Hawaiian.
