Re: Anybody Want to See a Bruce Roberts 65 Surfing at 20 Knots?!

Well, this is one of the strangest threads I've seen in a while.

Gold - just being out there looks fun - and surfing along at 15+ is hard to beat. I'm with surfer - goodonya.

Re: Anybody Want to See a Bruce Roberts 65 Surfing at 20 Knots?!

To me it doesn't seem like unhappy people bashing anyone other than maybe exposing someone eluding to sailing that fast. Why pigeon-hole anyone here? It doesn't matter any how. It was a fun video. Entertainment on a forum is all.

Thanks for your comments. The footage was taken not long after the wind hit us which was not forecast by the way. The crew did put on PFDs after the footage was taken but we only use our jacklines and tethers either after dusk or when the conditions are very rough usually when there is a large swell which wasn't the case here. The reefing didn't look pretty but was effective and the boat was not overpowered.

I could post a video of "Lookit me going 135 MPH on a Yamaha 750 on a deserted freeway in the middle of the afternoon" but it would be boring.

Enjoy the trip Gold. I'll be interested in the video - even if the rest of these bermuda-shorts-and-sock-suspender-wearing-cane-wielding-old-dudes aren't.

How about me in a E Type doing 150mph outside RAF Lyneham in 1964? Yawn, equally boring, now he's setting off to Panama without a guide book. Reminds me of a character who hailed me in the English Channel and asked "which way is France? Can you point? I don't have a compass" Iit's south of San Diego!

Didn't you say you were done with this thread a few posts ago?

(PS - I love seeing CharlieCobra's ad - Baggett & Sons - at the tops of these pages. That dude is the real deal. I know. I've sailed with him.)

Re: Anybody Want to See a Bruce Roberts 65 Surfing at 20 Knots?!

Turttle Bay isn't too bad for fuel, and I'm guesing at 20k you'll need a lot of fuel. There's also a couple of small restaurants in town that put on a pretty good feed. After that, Cabo is where most folks stop to clear Customs. I like it better than Ensanada, as it seems to offer fewer hassles. Lots of spots between there and Costa Rica to stop for fuel, you should really buy a cruising guide though, they aren't too pricey. You will need to pick up crew in Panama to get through the ditch. Sometimes the wait is a little long, but the booze is cheap and there's a water taxi to take you into Panama City.
