Anchoring a Fin Keeled Boat

I have a Beneteau First 285, 6200 lb total displacement, with a 22 lb Delta anchor, 65' of 1/4" chain and 200' of rode. I have a wing keel, spade rudder and draw 3'-11". I have been told about (and seen examples on YouTube) the tendency of the rode to get wrapped around the keel on this type of boat, particularly in situations where the wind and current oppose each other. I have also been told that dropping a fishing drogue off the stern when those conditions occur will prevent this from happening. What do you guys think about this?

Thanks,
Bob

Use a kellet on the rode to keep it clear of the keel.

Re: Anchoring a Fin Keeled Boat

I have an 8 lb mushroom anchor which I send down the main anchor rode on another line attached with a carabiner. I haven't wrapped the keel since I started using it.

I use a fishing weight. Cheap, heavy, and easy.
