I have two reports stating that the boats in the hurricane storage are for the most part, intact yet many have lost their rigs. I have also heard that boats on the hard are lying on their side. Nanny Cay did not cradle and strap down all of the boats. When I was there last month, I would say that about 50% were strapped for hurricane storage, the other 50% simply blocked. That may explain the conflicting reports regarding the yard.

You are absolutely correct with regard to getting a non write off boat seaworthy. The infrastructure is gone.

Here are some pics from the dock at the Moorings Sunsail base. I posted these on another thread here somewhere as well.

That is somewhat comforting. We were facing south on the first row pointing at the new Marina. Genevieve has a very powerful rig. Hoping for the best, expecting the worst.

Were you next to near a Freedom Cat Ketch? I remember one in that general location. I was just North of you facing the new marina strapped down with 5 foot sand screws. All of the boats in the yard and north of the yard near the road entrance were not strapped when I was there last month.

Here are some pics I took just after it went through.

Someone did a video of some of them.

I will be going to SXM shipyard and megayard today once I get my dink in the water.
Dutch marines are not letting anyone through.
Hopefully the picture attaches.
Four concrete anchors chained with bottle screws back and front and a cargo strap over the top. Filled the hull with approx 2 cubic meters of water. ( two tons) and she survived probably in excess of 130kts.

Looks pretty much like it looked after hurricane Luis (cat 4, 1995) 22 to years ago , almost to the day.

And the 1935 cane down by Key West blew a locomotive off its tracks.

Best of luck mates. I'm leaving TN right now for Sarasota where my boat is on a mooring at Marina Jack. I thought in was clear until Irma took the west turn. I'll be working through the nite and hopefully headed back north early tomorrow.

Re: About to be slammed by IRMA Cat 5

I'm surprised by people headed to Florida to secure their belongings at this late date. I was on a flight this morning and there was a couple headed down to board up their homes windows and then come back north late tomorrow. From what I've heard, all the flights are booked and some flights are being cancelled and gas is unavailable to drive and the highways are clogged so once you get there, getting out might be very difficult. It seems to me that anyone heading to Florida now is likely to accomplish little more than add themselves to the number of people who will soon need aid. All stuff (including boats) can be replaced.

Don't believe all you read on the internet. I went to Eastern Oregon to watch the solar eclipse, and the reality was far better than the dire warnings.
