Want to Build a Watermaker

Read Brent Swain's thread on this forum and noticed he commented on making a 500+ GPD watermaker. Would like to know where I can get details on how to construct one for my small resort on an outer island in Fiji. We are in desparate need of more water! All help is appreciated.

Or you can contact Brent Swain and he will sell you his DIY book.

Greetings, and welcome aboard the CF, Lalatibrad.

The current issue #72, of Good Old Boat - Welcome to Good Old Boat Magazine, has an article, by Randy Baker, on building your own watermaker.
The January/February 2003 issue of Good Old Boat also had an excellent article by a Guy Stevens on the construction of a 20 GPH water-maker.

Brent has a lot of good info in his book. A book I would recommend to a DYI.
But 500 gpd is if you run it 24 hrs straight. That's a good production for a boat. But for a resort? What are your power capabilities and costs in this remote Island in Fiji? I would say your requirements are going to be greater than 500gpd even for a very small resort. A boat water maker and a land based water maker can be two different things sounds more like you need a land based unit that will produce the needed amounts in a shorter period of time and one that won't cost an arm and a leg in electrical use in the long run.

I emailed Glenn over a year ago, wondering how his building project turned out..I have never gotten a response.
