Trying to find time to sail

Ahoy All,

I'm new to the forum, but not new to sailing. I've been sailing ever since I was a little kid. Right now i have a Tanzer 7.5 but I don't really have a lot of time to sail. I Have My own welding shop And am really busy with that. But thats the reason I'm here, because I do a lot of stainless for local boat owners. I just finished up a cradle for an SE 7.9, maybe (i forget the actual boat make). I'm starting a whole trailer for a Mirage 24 next week. Now heres my question, the mirage 24 is only about 3500lbs so I was thinking a single 5000lb axle should be good enough? correct me if I should go tandem. If you have any questions about metalwork/welding for boats I may be of help.

Happy sailing,
Charles

Go tandem

That weight is empty. Add in all the junk that we all love to carry on our boats and your getting close to the 5000 lb limit. Add the weight of the boat as it bounces on the trailer (when you hit uneven pavement and chuck-holes) and you may be looking at a problem in the making. I have a tandem trailer for my 22' O'Day and have never had a problem.

I agree tandem is the best way to go, but the customer wants to keep the cost down. I've seen tanzer 22 with a single axle and do just fine. I'll try to talk him into a tandem, better be safe than sorry.
