Trimaran Barnstorming

Hello,
I've jumped the gun and made a couple posts already..... I actually sail my boat, usually with my son, and this seemed a good forum for those who leave the dock. We barnstorm a vintage trimaran, currently in the Pacific NW and are conducting a sailing restoration- meaning it gets upgraded but we have to be able to go sailing.

So, what's Barnstorming? I am kinda thinking brainstorming in a barn - but can't figure out how the trimaran would fit in...

Old flying term from post ww1 when pilots would get old airplanes, cruise around, take people for rides and camp out in fields on their way to different places. Jim Brown of Searunner trimaran fame applied the notion to old multihulls. We try to sail off the beaten path and avoid the marinas while sailing a vintage boat so it sort of fits. Sailing a trimaran is a little like flying to complete the analogy. I probably should have thought about whether sailors would know pilot terms. How is the sailing in the Persian Gulf? It is wet enough here to make any place warm look good but it seems things are heating up over there?

Wow, you must be getting more wind then we are here... flying a tri low over barns takes a lot of wind! :>) Have fun!

Flying over barns huh? While I have flown an airplane the only thing I'm rated on is a sailboat-no pilots license. Back in the 60's during a speed record attempt in smooth water and 50+ knots of wind the designer on a early boat did take off at 28knots and perform a barrelroll which ended the run with a large splash. The maximum altitude was 6 feet. Thanks all for the howdy and remember- even in tornado country it is a mistake to try and fly barns.
