This place is like crack...

This just may just be the most addictive place in the whole intrawebs. I've read about everything from mattresses to countertops to crapping in a bucket. From $500 a month cruising to a non boater lady wanting to jump into the deep end of the boating pool and load up on 2 huge boats so her family would have enough room.

And thanks to all u heavy posters who contribute so much, zeehag, Rebel, saucy, NJD, Indy, GalaxyGirl, and on and on. Hopefully the sundowners will be on me someday.

Which brings me to me. 47, newly single, professional pilot. I call Myrtle Beach home. Owned numerous small sailboats. Oday 23, 25, Macgreggor 26, Hobie 17 ect. Always harboured dreams of living on one and someday sailing away forever or so. So for the the last few months I've been researching, visiting boats, and internet shopping. I've been successful. I actually found somebody that would take a stack of cash for an old boat that needs some work. Imagine my shock! It's an S2 9.2C. The surveror said it might float me home. Or not. But the hull seems sound, rig ok, engine runs in forward AND reverse! All for about 10k. Here she is..
1979 S2 Sloop Sail Boat For Sale - www.yachtworld.com

So I'll be headed to Savannah to bring her home this week. I may even sail it outside from Hilton Head to Georgetown. Alone. In the dark. And cold. As someone once said, if anything is gonna happen, it's gonna happen out there. Assuming I make it, I'll be docked at Osprey Marina, initially. I have a condo in Myrtle that I intend to rent out by the week. Rented weeks I'll stay on boat. Vacant weeks, I can use condo. We'll see.
Now I have to come up with a name. "Midsummers Dream" "Spirit of Ecstasy" "Mach .01" "Airpower" "Titanic 2"....

So, between remodeling voyaging painting oiling and all, I'm sure I'll be on here alot. So hi to all and to all a good night.

Dave:

Congratulations on the new boat. But, I would check the weather this week before you head out. Big storm soon come here along the east coast starting Tuesday/Wednesday. You might not want to be out there until it passes.

Welcome to the forum...There is an S2 34' in the slip beside me. Looks like a sound boat. Maybe some elbow grease, bleach with clove oil.

Re: This place is like crack...

My first reply is from the electric boat guru. I'm honored. You inspire me. Seriously considering electric when my diesel dies... Been looking at the forecast. Winds out of the west to 30mph. Hmmm. At least they will be offshore. Or I could keep the iron wind blowing me up the ditch. We'll see. I'll have about a 5 hour run before I have to decide. including some sailing time on the sound near Hilton Head. I expect the decision will be obvious by then. Ditch, off shore, or anchor and cry myself to sleep.

Well, if you got through that, you've started to scratch the surface of what this place offers.

There's plenty to research on this forum.

Welcome to CF.

Re: This place is like crack...

G'Day PD, and welcome...

Actually, it is a lot better than crack, 'cause you don't have to stand around the corner in sleazy neighborhoods to get it. Just fire up the ol' computer and there it is!

There is indeed some good advice offered here. There is also a lot of codswallop (that's a funny word for BS). As your habit matures, you will be able to tell the difference.

As far as I know, there is no 12 step program to rid yourself of the CF habit, so be careful!

Cheers,

Jim

Hi Dave
Welcome to CF!

Congratulations on your new purchase. I have another name to throw in for your consideration: "Negative G".

PilotDave, you should run!

Escape, mate, while it is still possible. You will get sucked into this terrible cruising lifestyle and will be incapable of getting away until you are broke, single and emotionally f***ed.

Don't do it. We need our space out here with less newbies. Sell your boat, keep the prices low. Follow my advice or regret later at your leisure.

Jimbo, you crafty bastard. If I wasn't already broke, single and emotionally spent I might listen.. But you're too late. I'm looking at this to keep me single. Yep, my head will be a five gallon bucket. That ought to keep those fillies in other pastures.

Best of luck Dave and welcome.

Between reading about it and trying it you can be quite busy.

In that case I suggest Membership of:-

Cruisers & Sailing Forums - The International Bucketeer Squadron!

and we also have female members - not sure how heavily they are generally into the crapping in a bucket side of things. But I have not checked the pics for a while.......
