Timshel,
It's very doable...I have lived in Downtown St Paul, Harriet Island at the SPYC yacht club for the last 13 years...(did a couple Fall/winters in
Key West on the sailboat, tho). They have 25 spots granted by the city specifically for Liveaboards. I have had 3 different boats during my time there. Currently it is a 50 ft
steel "floating cabin" with a raised roof in the kitchen and dinning area. Lot's of windows and a million dollar view! Also, it is a Non-profit Marina, formed in 1913 and just happens to be the best equiped, most modern, friendliest and cheapest spot in the state. I love it there (don't tell anyone!)
Membership for
liveaboard is $1,000, same
price last 13 years. Eventually you get it back through discounts on slip fee's. There are at least 3 other
marinas nearby that also offer liveaboard...without the
membership, but fee's are a little higher, as they are privately owned. I like my location in the city (it's always quiet after 5pm and I am right downtown.
Slip prices are much less than you pay in Superior and you get a longer season and better
weather to boot.
