The Adventure Begins !

Hello to all! Dreams of sailing adventures, which started some 30 years ago for me, have recently resurfaced and have somehow brought me to this beautiful island in the vast internet ocean. I must say that the natives here very friendly!

I am a Florida native (Okeechobee), long time boat owner and avid offshore fisherman. In 2007 I liquidated completely, including my beloved Mako 264 CC, and moved to the Philippines. I settled in the Bislig Bay area on the East coast of Mindanao, remarried, built a house, bought a fine native 30' banka and spent nearly all my money over the next three years. This long strange trip I am on has now landed me smack dab in the middle of KENTUCKY! I am here working for the largest construction company in the US, helping to keep us all safe from chemical weapons. I had never seen or experienced snow before until this past winter and I dont like it. I MUST ESCAPE!

My plan is this: Over the next two years I will (1) learn to sail, (2) find then buy the right vessel for me, (3) prepare the vessel and myself for passage and finally (4) triumphantly sail home solo to my waiting wife and family!

I really look forward to becoming a part of the community here and making new friends along the way. I realize that sportfishing and cruising are archipelagos apart but I also hope to be useful in some way somehow. Thank you for reading and keep the sails dry!

ahhhhh the Philippines......

We are headed that way, and it starts in several weeks by sailing away from Florida to San Francisco. It could take several months, or several years to continue onto the Phils after S.F. Our first stop being my wife's home, Davao.

I'll post some pics later this evening to give you a wee bit of enthusiasm to get back.....BEST WISHES.........i2f

Salamat po imagine2frolic for ur reply. Davao is close to my heart, its where my wife and I met for the first time and where we were married. Our home is in Bislig which is 6 torturous mountain traversing hours East. When you guys sail that direction, which I know you will, stop in Bislig Bay, Mangagoy and ask for kano Almond. I will share my Redhorse...sige lang?

Your plan sounds a bit like the one immortalized in the non-fiction book, Desperate Voyage by John Caldwell. Just kidding; I'm sure yours will turn out much better!

Welcome aboard! Are you in Richmond? The wife and I will be heading for Lexington next month and do some house shopping and relative visiting.
I'd be more than happy to find you and talk about sailing if you like. I got as far south in the P. I. as Cebu City and have spent at least a year and a half total there as late as the mid 80s. All Navy time.

Hud, I went to the library and checked out this book. I havent started reading it yet but by looking at the cover it might convince me that buying a boat in Oz or SE Asia is prudent!

I see your in Nevis. I used to live in Frederiksted in the late 80s where I was also employed as a surveyor. I had the pleasure of spending 3 months on Nevis during that time conducting a huge survey, several large estates, in the South of the island. Nevis is a beautiful island and I can say that particular project was a real joy. Besides the multitudes of jack-spaniards and stinging nettle of course!
