Re: Taking the Plunge

Yeah, it probably is a big jump, but we didn't want to have to buy more than one boat. Wanted one we could cruise around locally in to gain experience, then take off in when we're ready and know it inside and out. We both come from hardy stock, so like you, will undoubtedly have glitches, but will definitely survive.

The tradeoffs you speak of are understandable, and I appreciate the heads up. Will watch for that.

Oh, man! Two hours, huh? OK, you're off my list. Just kidding!

Aloha and welcome aboard!
Yes, that's a big jump but since you have boating and some sailing classes it'll be just learning more systems. The wheel is easy. Just like steering a wheeled powerboat or car.

Mahalo, John! We did finally close on her on May 3rd. She's 19 years old and her previous owner did little to no maintenance during the 10 years he had her. We got a smokin' deal on the sales price, but have spent a lot in repairs/upgrades in the last month and a half. All in all, though, now she is worth her assessed value and looks like new again. As soon as we get our head sail back from the repair shop, we are ready to start our summer adventures!

Congratulations. Assume you stuck with the 43 Hunter? Now that the boats all cleaned up you have to post photos. I'm pretty sure that's a forum rule.

Re: Taking the Plunge

Thanks! It has been a lot of work, but we are so happy to be nearly done. We still have a few new instruments to install, as all the other instruments were downright archaic. We're waiting on the chart plotter, as everything goes through it. My husband says it is so new that it hasn't even come off the production line yet. We are expecting it in about 10 days. The radar unit, weather station, and VHF radio are all ready to roll, though. Looking forward to a fun 4th of July!
