I am a musician from Manchester. Having just given up my job as a teacher in Portugal
, I have now embarked on a voyage in a small red boat called Bloodshot
. Completely new to sailing, my main challenge at the moment is seasickness, and after that, trying to get used to the sometimes quite frankly bizarre terminology involved in the craft. I mean, why can't we just call it a toilet?
I will also be working on new songs
as I travel, recording them in the "boat studio", which consists of an iPad
and a small microphone, and any other musicians who happen to be passing through.
We are in Arrecife at the moment after two successful open water
passages; four days from Lisbon to Agadir, and then a further two days from Agadir to Lanzarote. All in all I am quite pleased with how it's going, considering I am a complete novice
I would welcome any feedback or advice as a new crewmate. If you glance at my blog emmajayashton | Songs from the Seas
you will be able to see a few pictures and hear some of the boat music
recorded so far.
I look forward to meeting some of you over the coming months! And if anyone is in Arrecife too and fancies playing some music
, come visit me on the little red boat.
