Skeptchick Sends Greetings

Hello all, I am new to the forum and am glad to have found you. I live in the SF Bay Area and recently decided to try out my dream of living aboard. I adore it! I have a '37 1979 Her Shine trawler that controls my wallet and my moods. She's demanding, but with patience, we get along just fine. Looking forward to meeting you all.

Welcome to CF Michelle…. I can tell you have already embraced that fatalistic commitment between boat and owner.

Curious about one thing though… to a woman owner… is a boat still a “she”?

Men I think, call it a She because of that anthropomorphic desire to accept parts of our craft as uncontrollable... yet still faithful.

For a woman… is it more like a demanding child that brings both pride, prejudice and a mother’s desire to protect…….or……Is it more like a potential male partner… promising but in need of a little work?

How DO women visualize their boat and is it still a she?

Re: Skeptchick sends greetings

Good question! I think of her as a she because she has the ability to calm me when I am upset, to insist that I can do better, to be forgiving of my mistakes and to show me a side of life that is flexible and enduring. She is a good teacher and a mischievous comedian. And she can always think of something for me to do.

Good answers!!! I think of ours as a 'she' because:
1 - She always wants more money spending on her
2 - She always needs cleaning up
3 - She's temperamental
4 - She's demanding
5 - She's sexy

Yes, welcome to the forum Skeptchick (and from your apparently positive attitude, I gather 'skept' isn't some new-age short-form for 'scept'ical). Unless it is about men, who I gather in your experience would not/ could not be calming, encouraging, forgiving, flexible and mischieviously funny! Mind you, until recently I've always been sceptical about finding a woman who could be all of those things.... (always thinking of something for me to do, yes, but as to the rest...).

And Saucy you have it right about Sterling Hayden - he sailed to get away from his wife!

Anyway Michelle, a great introduction - looking forward to your future posts!
