shadow boats aus

Hi everyone

We that is my wife Jo and I are new to this forum as u might well work out for yourself.
We today march 13 are alongside on the Brisbane river and we own and operate a 36m private charter research vessel with accommodation for about 20 persons in 9 cabins.
Now the challenge for us is tomake this vessel earn money for us.

We own it, its paid for and its in good order and we have about 18 tonnes of fuel on board.

What I would like to discuss with other boating people is the possibilities relating to providing an at sea mobile service shop providing ships stores ice , fuel oil repair facilities ships retail shop , extra accomodation toys and the list could go on and on to start with on the Queensland coast.

Visit this link below to see our ship in some detail and please feel free to discuss this possible opportunity with us.

You could possibly earn money in this way providing such a service to trawler fleets in more remote areas.

Sounds like a cool operation! What kind of fuel burn are you anticipating, and how much would you have to sell per mile to break even?

up and running the ship requires 70 litres per hour at 8 knots crank her up to 10 knots and consumption goes to about 110 per hour.

at anchor i have it down to between one and two per hour just depends on what is getting used.

when in a given area, breakeven is very low $500 per day would eat it up

keep the questions and comments coming please

Aloha Pat and Jo,
Welcome aboard! Wow, that's quite a vessel. Would you be able to provide boatowner's space and tools to do some do-it-yourself repairs for a fee?
Kind Regards,
JohnL

Hi Guys and welcome,
I've always loved anything looking like a floating shop - seen ice cream delivered this way in Holland when sailing along - and of couse several 'fruitmen' selling thier stuff in the Caribbean.
But looking at your fuel consumption would suggest step one is finding somewhere best to park the boat where a maximum number of consumers can come to you rather than you chasing them.........or your base costs are going to be too high for you to make a reasonable return.
Good luck with the venture - and keep us all posted on how it turns out.
JOHN

Hi John
Tried a couple of times to post a reply . Yes thats a good idea and been in the back of my mind something like this . Also providing ships service to look after boats when owners might have a reason to be away from their vessel.
What exactly do you have in mind.

Regards

I have had a brief look at the Kimberely region and further south to Exmouth gulf area .

Licence is not a particular problem and i considered setting up a camp onshore somewhere with the ship at anchor and in support and then taking guests on short day excursions fishing exploring or even down to Ninglaoo for example

I think this idea is amongst the best but it is about finding the best location for something like this to take place.

Thanks once again
