sea dog looking for a wet ball

Dear Sea dog companions.
I have been living and working in Asia for 18 years now. Mostly in the finance and commodity space. I am a lawyer by training and am about to leave my job as Deputy CFO to pursue something different. Something closer to water. Our son is 10 and by the time he hits a university I am planning to go on a haste free circumnavigation. Sailing is part of my life since I am 4 and this is now 48 years ago.
I never looked at sailing as a way to make a living but if any of you has an idea how a (decent) living can be made for a manager, business developer, finance or supply chain guy in the yachting industry then let me know.

All ahead flank!

Welcome.

You are searching for the holy grail of cruising and there is a well worn path ahead of you. Everything I have read is learn to write.

Although I have heard some debate that the cruising and working idea is a way to mess up a perfectly good cruise. We will be quitting our jobs to go cruising. We will settle somewhere when the money runs out and get new jobs.

Re: sea dog looking for a wet ball

Thanks Tim R. Writing is not a problem. But I will stay shore bound as long as my son still needs a school. Once at university the tide will change. I was rather thinking of building up a yacht club or work in managing a charter business.... hmm. guess this is way past the horizon...

Aloha and welcome aboard!
How about law? Lots of cruising folks have squabbles with marinas, boat yards, local stupid laws and such. You might just hang a shingle on your mast.
Otherwise learn diesel mechanics, boat electrical systems and refrigeration. That's where the money is.
kind regards,

Good one. Thanks John. I will see if I can open the first floating marina arbitration and litigation services office. Cool
