Sailing Around The World! Will have many questions!

Some friends and I have just made our first long distance sail from Ventura CA to La Paz, BCS MX! We got down here and I just purchased a new boat, a 35 CT Pilothouse Ketch in need of lots of repairs. Just wanted to say hello to everyone on this online community and share a video I made of the trip!

Embarking on a adventure isn't as easy as pulling on your boot straps and heading out the door. It takes time, consideration, preparation, planning and a fair bit of risk. When we first set out to sail around the world we expected isolated beaches, mellow climates, unknown surf breaks, and women in grass skirts singing us to sleep with their ukeleles. We didn't think about the lulls, the doldrums, the terrifying storms, the dishonest and thieving people met from time to time, or being stuck somewhere because you don't trust your boat on the ocean and there is nothing but work to be done. We did not fully grasp the reality of the situation we were putting ourselves in. At some point there becomes no getting out.

Whenever you take an adventure, only one thing is certain: you will not come back the same person as when you left. After nearly three months of living on the sea and out of much of society's clutches, all of our priorities have been switched upside down. The things we thought were important have become miniscule, the things we thought were trivial have become monumental. Our senses are heightened, time has slowed down, and we find ourselves in lengthy conversations with complete strangers, forgetting all of the other things we had to get done that day. We have started to respect the ocean, not as some wild sea world to react to, but as an extension of ourselves. Every time we eat a fish or drink some water, we are taking the ocean in, and in essence we become the ocean, and the ocean becomes us.

Setting a goal like this and then not achieving it would be enough to break a man permanently. On top of that all of our blood, sweat, tears, work and money goes into the boat, and walking away from it is something we can't even fathom. The boat is home, and where it goes we go. We have a strong passion for bringing everyone along this journey as well through our films, photography and writing we create.

I took the bus from La Paz to Tijuana after the sail down this last November. What a trip?
