Sailing (and art) in Maine

I have sailed most of the coast of New England and now keep my boat at Spruce Head near Rockland Maine.

My full time activity is painting and Penobscot Bay provides about as much inspiration as any artist could hope for. If you are in Massachusetts next month, I hope you will look in on my exhibition. For details see:

Sixteen weeks to launch!

Mike

Nice artwork, and good luck with your exhibition. Of the pieces on the site, I think I like "Arrival at Seguin Island" the best, but "Anchor Lights" is a close second.

Our local sailing magazine, 48 North, has a local sailing artist on the cover every month-- pretty cool.

I was also impressed that Pat Henry was able to finance a fair chunk of her circumnavigation with her artwork, as written in her book "By the Grace of the Sea."

Thanks!

Jim H

It's ok.

I know a couple of artists. They are known artists here on the west coast.

How long have you been putting your works up in galleries?

Mike, I agree, nice work. Of course, you do have a classic backdrop to work with
Jim. I agree, and she is an incredibe person. Although she did not accomplish this without MUCH sacrifice. She is a very strong person, and I think that has led much to her success. Even more than her obvious talent.
For anyone who wants to go cruising on a budget, her book is a must read. When I was 20 something, I could have done that, but to do it at 54 is astounding.

Hi Mike. Nice paintings! Do you live aboard? I ask this because I too am a painter (www.sharibuelt.com) and will be selling our house within the next year and moving aboard our future boat. With every boat we've looked at, I consider where i will store my supplies as well as paint. I plan on renting a studio on shore during the winter months. Anyway, thanks for sharing your work with us, it's beautiful!

yo mike

i really like the one you did called anchor lights. very nice sky. I also am a painter and would like to cruise and paint all over. I am planning to do a mississippi trip this summer. I was thinking about applying for a grant, do you know of any that might fund this type of thing? keep up the good work!
