RV'ers to Sailors

Signed up a few weeks ago but didn't introduce myself

Paul (66) and my wife Jenny (55) are full time RVers. Two years ago we sold a beautiful home in East Aurora NY (near Buffalo) and bought a 41' 5th wheel. We've traveled all over the US and Canada (currently in Alaska). Been a wonderful experience. So we've gone through the experience of downsizing, living in small spaces and having breakdowns where no help is easily available.

I grew up in MA and learned to sail on a Sunfish. While living near Buffalo I owned a 22' Catalina that I sailed mostly singlehanded for 15 years on Lake Erie.

Two years ago my wife was against buying a boat and living aboard. But RVing full time has changed her attitude and now we are entertaining the idea of buying a Cat and sailing the Caribbean.

Going to spend the winter in the Florida keys to get started and hopefully do some sailing

Re: Rvers to Sailors

My family were RVers growing up.

I learned very early, that a cruising boat is basically a floating Winnebago. All of the major systems are pretty much identical, or very alike.

Re: RV'ers to Sailors

Personally other than living in a small space I don’t see that much common ground, no pun intended. That’s not to say that it can’t all be learned. The more time spent at docks and the less time spent on passages the closer it gets to RVing. Good luck in seeking new adventures.

Not sure what type of RVing you did - we are never stationary in our RV more than a couple of weeks - bet we spend more time cruising than most sailors.

Right now we are traveling through Alaska
