Robert Perry 47 Bluewater Center Cockpit Ketch Infomation

Hello,
I'm new to this site, but can already see it has plenty of great contributions.
Looking for any info on the Robert Perry 47' design. The one I am looking at is a 1979 center cockpit ketch. What little info I have found is that it was produced in 3 seperate yards in Taiwan. Curious if anyone knows how many were made and between what period of time. Like most designs I'm sure it has a few quirks that need to be looked out for during a survey. Any help and info will be appreciated.

Thanks,
Jack

Re: Robert Perry 47 Bluewater center cockpit ketch INFO

If you're serious give Bob Perry a call. Home Page
He does consultations on boats for a flat fee. Quite reasonable.

Thanks for the reply Rick. Just looking for some owners knowledge/advice for now before shelling out $500 to Mr Perry. Though I'm sure his advice and knowledge is priceless.

Cheers

Re: Robert Perry 47 Bluewater Center Cockpit Ketch Infomation

The Perry-designed Tayanas, including the super popular Tayana 37 and the 52, were made in Kaohsiung, Taiwan at the Ta Yang Yard. They do good work, I know, I used to have a T52 and have visited the yard. But when I asked them why the owners manual that came with each boat was only three pages long with just a couple of photos on it, they told me, "Don't worry! We build them all the same. But different!"
Try and find out which yard built the boat and, of course, have a detailed survey done. A boat of that vintage will need a special look into the condition of the hull for lamination or blisters. Likely as not, you will be changing a lot of stuff like rigging, seacocks, what about the engine -original? Make a hard list of what needs to be replaced now, next year and in three years. Add it up and see if it is still a good deal.

Good luck.
