Hi and welcome to CF! You want to, you know it, case closed! Actually there are milder climates that might better suit living on a boat. I am a South Florida native and I know how oppressively hot it can get. Factor in humidity and the fact that your from Montana and I can see where you might not be satisfied with the whole living onboard situation. But, there is only one way to find out, I say try it! Good luck!

Living Aboard

I know I want to but, I also want to cruise to the Islands off Florida or up the east coast. I still want to live in Montana in summer. So I am trying to find out out about slips in the winter and dry storage in summer. Is owning a boat cost prohibited compared to a house? I have heard maintainence on boats is high. I live on a lake in Mt. but freshwater is different than salt. I also don't know what brand of boats to be looking at to be out on the ocean. Can someone tell me the brands I could be researching?

Maintenance on boats is constant, but not necessarily expensive. If you are going to own a boat, get some maintenance manuals, acquire some tools, and do it yourself. However, you do have to pay for moorage, getting the boat hauled, paint, yard storage..... blah, blah, blah. It aint free. It is where my discretionary income goes. Try before you buy. Rent a crewed sailboat down there, or maybe bareboat in the Carribean, and see what you think.

Aloha and welcome aboard!
Let's see, it's cold in Montana and it's warm in Florida. Case closed.

For Frenchy - Go to the top of the page, click on Forums, scroll down to Meets and Greets, click on New Thread and start your adventure.

kind regards,
