Regards from Texas

Hello All!

My father and I are planning to go cruising after I finish highschool so I figured I would join and try to soak up as much knowledge as I can while we are still on shore. Haha! I'll begin with a bit about myself or (us).

I am 17 years old and currently a senior in high school. We bought a 23' Sovereign Sailboat to learn on a couple years ago. My dad has been sailing since he was younger than me, I, however, have not.

At first I was scared of the heel and was not overjoyed with this idea. However, as everyone eventually does, I got used to it and thought this was a great idea! Eventually i got to the point where I could man the 'vessel' (haha, If I can call it that. ) by myself. Now, we couldn't go cruising for real in a 23' Sovereign, but it made for a nice learning boat. We got our baby a few months ago, *cue the chorus of the angels*, it's a 39' Landfall Vagabond made in '81. All teak deck and a gorgeous interior. Now, we got it for a steal so it currently requires a lot of work.

Currently it is sitting in a marina at the local lake while we work on it, and then in a year, we will move it to Houston or Galveston to set off.

Anyways, I hope that didn't sound too egotistical! Haha!

*Ahem*

Anyways, I'm off to post a slew of questions! Feel free to shoot me some tips about cruising in particular. I love charts, graphs, and that sort of thing. Even before sailing, so anything in that area would be nice.

Thanks for the welcome! And I will be sure to post before and after pictures. We are going to re-caulk the deck in the coming month or so; hopefully, I can grab some pictures.

However, we will not be sanding the deck. My dad want's to retain the character and just fix the leaks and things. I totally agree. Makes it look more pirate-y. lol
