hi i`m Steve, my wife's Debra

we are a middle aged ( hate the expression ) couple living on the gold coast qld, we have been sailing regularly for the last four years since we bought nanga mai a 32 ft sloop getting as far as fraser isalnd last june, we have decided we would like to go out further a field and are in the process of selling our current boat a 32 foot starfire and buying a Van de Stadt 40 in fibre glass, our boats already been accepted as the deposit and the sea trial/survey of the new boat is this friday i`ve crawled all around her and all looks well but i wouldn't buy anything of this size without having an expert survey done on it first

likes? sailing of course we are really lucky to live on the gold coast Queensland, and we have been out two or three times a week lately watching the whale migration, ( you`ll soon get bored of my whale pictures i have hundreds lol )

Hi Steve and Debra.
Hope you enjoy CF as much as we do?
Our last boat was a Van De Stadt 34 or should I say a Dehler 34, same thing. We loved the way she sailed and miss the performance she had both around the cans and cruising up and down the coast.
I agree with your thoughts about a proper survey and this helps these days with insurance. Our last surveyor took a pic of everything he looked at and sent us them on disc with a 10 page report and a colour coded list of all parts and equipment on the boat. Really helped with what was good or ok or bad.
Looking forward to the Whales coming south from your local.

quick update
we`ve done the deal and picked up our new boat, there's a few minor items to sort but i`d guess that we`ll be out this weekend getting to know it better,

Congrats on the new boat. As you may well know, another CF regular, Weyalan, has been posting for some years about his efforts in "cruiserizing" his VdeS 40 "Insatiable". Not sure that they are identical boats, but look superficially similar from what I see. Anyhow, he might well have useful info for you at some time.

thanks jim ive read weyalans posts the guy likes to do things properly which is good to see it certainly keeps him busy dosnt it,

luckily for us, ours has been built with some creature comforts and we only have to do some minor repairs/updates and we will be good to go,

we hope to be in the whitsundays next winter for the hamilton island race week, im not sure if we will be entering id just like to be able to see the event close up,
