I bought a steel
boat, and am very pleased with her. It is good you made the observations you did; indeed, when steel
boats rust, it is usually from the inside-out. A particularly sleazy broker in Seattle
was pushing me toward a boat a couple years ago that had been foamed to the bilge
and had many inaccessible areas; I got far enough to have her surveyed and was advised to run, not walk, away.
But the one
ultimately buy is dry as a bone, and is mostly very accessible (other than places beneath a very nice interior refit
that would be a bit of a stretch!).
The best resource for advice and support specific to steel boats is the Metal Boat Society
. Worth joining if you go that route
, and the forums
are freely accessible.
