Potential Future Sailor(s) from Oregon

Greetings!

I have been interested in sailing, and possibly cruising, for about 15 years. Unfortunately, it has taken until now for my wife to finally become interested as well. We are completely inexperienced and know only what we've read online, which typically is almost worthless compared to real world experience.

We aren't really sure where to start. Each of us has only been on a sailboat once. I thought about trying to find a class for us to sign up for, but I'd rather find some folks who would be willing to take us out with them before I sign up for any formal training. We may decide that sailing isn't for us, so I'd rather figure that out first, before we invest too much into this.

Can anyone give me some advice on where to find folks who might be willing to let us tag along with them on local waters?

Thanks!

Welcome to the forum. You may be able to find a Yacht club or preferably a sailing club and check out sailing first hand. like anything, it will take some effort, financially or physically, on your part. Good luck.

Check out meetup.com (there are some sailing groups there, in certain cities) and google for sailing groups in your area. Where in Oregon are you? Portland? If you're in Portland you should have some options, but only on the river. If you can come to Puget Sound in the summer you'll have a lot more options.

One way of achieving your goals is to take sailing lessons at a sailing club.

Adult Keelboats - Yaquina Bay Yacht Club

which often leads to being able to crew for other club members.
