Plop!

Hello, Good morning/evening or whatever the salutation suits for your part of the world right now.
I'm an English South African (a "Soutie" as the South Africans would put it) let me explain for those that wish to know; the Afrikaner is a wonderfully expressive person and a truly amazing race of people, they named foreign immigrants (Male)to their country "sout piel" because you had one foot in your home land and one foot in theirs so your privates dangled in the ocean! "sout piel" is translated to English as "salt dick".
Gathering toward retirement years I have moved back to Europe and now live in Spain I did consider England but when I got their it was closed on account of the weather!
That was the first phase of seniority proving a point; the second phase of proving that one is moving toward the finer years is getting involved with a 54 foot steel hull ketch that really should have the plug pulled out and be left to the fish!!
However, being a person of myriad skills I have elected to do the restoration and be sick in every ocean and sea on the planet.
My good lady hales from England too and speaks with a "right funey accent like"
well we just want to say Hi to Y'all and hope over the coming months that we may find some sanity check right here while we go about sand blasting, painting, polishing and all the other stuff that goes with a complete in and out back to front restoration.
we look forward to fun and laughter... sweat and tears... who knows we may bump you some time.
Dan.

Re: Plop!

Welcome aboard have you heard of Charls De Villiers? First deaf man to solo round the world and a South African . He also has Sky diving records, and a damn fine rugby player. Afrikanese is an interesting and beautiful language. Anyways, welcome to CF.
Cheers

Re: Plop!

Welcome to CF dannyjw, nice intro, but finding sanity here might be a stretch. Nice piece of social information for SA, I'll try and remember it.

Re: Plop!

Hi, there, Dannyjw and lovely good lady,

Welcome aboard, for sure, and I want to say that i enjoyed your introduction.

Being the owner of an old steelie should keep you well and truly busy, and I do hope you'll make it out to sea to enjoy that, as well as sand blasting, coatings, and painting, maybe you'll need a Dremel tool implant before long!

When you think she's ready, do post a pic or two of your boat; it'll help those of the CF-ers in your neck of the woods to recognize and hail you.
