Hi there
I'm planning to buy and live on a sailboat in the next two years. I live in the Yukon, Canada and have no sailing experience.
So, I'm looking to crew on a boat for my vacations to gain experience and decide how best to proceed.
I'm 40 years old and have some passive income. Experience as a carpenter, pilot, dive master, and business owner.
My girlfriend and I will post on the crew site and hopefully find a boat to help out on this spring.

Hiya Murray.

Best advice on getting sailing experience is to go crew on racing boats if there are races locally. You'll learn oodles. Cruising obviously has some different challenges. But for the sailing part, racing is pretty sweet.

My problem is there is no sailing where I live in the north of Canada. Just igloos and moose.
I'm hoping to Find a boat we can crew on in march. I can fly down pretty much anywhere and spend two weeks helping out.
It's -30c here and I can't think of a better way to spend on vacation.

Racing is ok if you are competitive. If not then day sailing is a great way to learn as well.

I don't have any advice for finding a crew position. Just wanted to say that we bought our boat while we were living in Colorado and 3.5 years later cut the docklines to go cruising. I don't know that cruising outside Canada is your intention, but us land-locked folks can certainly get there
