Oregon Sailor

Hi,
I'm from Portland Oregon and am just checking this forum out. I plan on sailing in St. Martin in May for two weeks and was looking to get some advice on some beautiful places to go. I will be chartering with seven other woman and we like beautiful beaches and good snorkeling....Any advice anyone..?

Welcome to the forum!
Oyster bay has some excellent snorkeling. It is over on the dutch side. Or maybe it is called Oyster pond? I can not remember, it has been a few years. best of luck and have fun!

If you go French side, the north end of Grande Cais Bay is okay for snorkeling, some excellent restaurants ashore as well...also well worth a visit is lle Tintamarre...lovely anchorage...
Another good spot is between Green Cay and Orient Beach... be warned, Orient Beach is the Bare Bum Bay of St Martin.... wrinklies galore baring all.....
Enjoy... and don't let any "legends" put you off, French side is as safe as Dutch side... both have the same problems as any country... a bit of petty crime and a drug scene....
Just take the normal Travellers precautions.. don't flash your wealth and jewels one the street...
Safety in discretion..

Opps, forgot to mention Friars Bay just before Grande Cais... great live music... or used to be a coupla years ago...

Aloha and welcome aboard!
I'm an old Oregonian from Salem many, many years ago. It has been since the mid 80s that I was on St. Martin (Dutch side). Our Navy Cruiser pulled in there for liberty and we had a pretty good time. I didn't make it to the French side however so can't make any recommendations other than have a great time and like was already told don't flash your wealth.
regards,
