I think I agree with sailorboy (I'll be pleased with a correction from him if I'm wrong), but the important point is not to get a boat that requires time and work in order to make it operational. If you come across something free or cheap, only accept it if it is in condition for immediate use and fully functional.

My nephew recently picked up a Sovereign 23 for $200 and he's been sailing often. You may find something cheap, but small and ready is the need!

Steady Hand, I may have thanked you already for "Steady's Big Tip" (the Google search), but in case I haven't I want to now. That's the trick!

You are welcome!

It is never too late to teach an old dog new tricks.

I find that tip/method the big time saver for me, when I am looking for an answer to a question and think it might reside somewhere in the countless comments on this huge repository of opinion and knowledge we call The Forum.

By the way, as more inspiration for doing what you want to do, there have been many "retired age" or "mature" or "older" or "Old Salts" who have done some remarkable sailing late in life.

Some have done it with little resources too.

If you want to get a sense of some "good yarns" and enjoy a good book, look for something written by Tristan Jones. I found his books very enjoyable and well written. Just take them with a splash of saltwater.

Good luck!
