Cool OOPS

Ahoy,Cocoa Moe here, I'm new to computers and it's still like a new drug.I posted my intro as a reply to someone else's intro so here's mine-----I live alone on a 1977 27' Hunter shoal draft sloop named SEVENS near Key West Fl.in a marina.I have a canvas shop right down the dock.If I didn't work for myself I'd have no excuse to not come to work, but I still take a day off, now and then,to fish or sail or just drink a few beers and enjoy the weather. I love it here.I've lived on this boat for almost 6 yrs and now and it needs some fixing up before I can really go sailing like to Cuba or Puerto Rico next year. I'm looking for info about rigging and sails.Where can I go other than West Marine or Boaters World? I'm also looking for female[in 50's]1st mate/partner/companion to help with refurb and sail. email COCOAMOES@aol.com Anyone coming to Key West look me up,we can do the Duval Crawl

Aloha Cocoa,
Welcome aboard!! I'm certain you'll find someone on the forum who can help with your rigging questions. I'm not familiar with Key West because I live in the "real" Southernmost city in the U. S..
Kind Regards,
JohnL

When you ask about rigging, is the boat already rigged and you just need to check and/or repair, or are you thinking about major changes in the rig?

Sails are fairly easy, check for information on how to measure on almost any of the major sail lofts sights, Banks, Doyle, North, etc. There is almost certainly a local loft in the keys near you. Having a canvas shop, I'm surprised you don't already know one.

Are you considering making your own? The modern science of sailmaking is more than cutting and sewing to size.

Hi Sunspot, Thanks for the links to sails, a pelican took out my aftstay last year and Wilma blew a piece of tin roofing into 3 boats tied next to each other and took out the port shrouds on all 3 of us and since my sails are pretty old I think they should all be replaced before I go very far. I'm looking for good used reasonable priced Most shops around here either leaving or already left because of rising costs and developers buying little guys out to put in high $ condos and resorts. I make bimini tops, covers, curtains, enclosures, dodgers, cushions,a wnings, and any repairs, but not sails.I don't have the space and it's all I can do to keep up with what I get now,I don'tneed any more. It's time to get my boat ready I'm not getting any younger.

There are several used sail merchants. Try a "used sail loft" search on Google.

There is no liveaboard sailing community on the Big Island in Puna. That's where I live so I know quite a bit about the area. Hilo has no liveaboards and no marina and I don't believe it is allowed anywhere on the Big Island even at the marina in Kailua-Kona. That's probably why you can't find much information about it. Look up Hawaii on the search mode in the forum and you'll get some more information.

If you want more specific information and an official phone number I can help you.

used sails

Try this link; Bacon and Associates I have looked there in the past and been impressed with the selection.

Good Luck

on edit: looks like they have 97 mains that fit your boat, and 47 jibs. I used the 'search by model' feature.
