Re: Not your average CF member...

I filled out the entrance form on cf and there were several boxes.

worthless
almost useful
average
great
perfect

I checked the almost useful box and was accepted as a member. I hear they are tightening up the standards of cf members. Not just anyone can apply. I must have been grandfathered in.

Awesome for you to be going to FL. Wish I was there. We had snow this morning. It's melting now. Wife and I spoke last week about taking 2-3 months off and snowbirding in FL because it's just to darn cold up here for me. And I can only work on my boat, not sail! I actually like working on it, but miss the sailing when it's really cold.

Skip,
I envy how calm it must be in your current anchorage, however I would prefer to have more cruising grounds accessible to me I would love to come and visit, however due to the Garnet and Gold blood that runs through my veins, I have been permanently banned from Alachua County.

Welcome to the forum. Hauling people only pays if they are in the trunk of your car or in a container coming from China

Well depends on what you haul them with. My cousin married a power boat captain that just hauled around the owner and a few family and friends, usually no more than 5-10 at a time but he managed to make a whole heap of money at it.

Of course he was hauling them around in a 120' Feadship so maybe that made a difference.

Yes it is pretty calm where I'm moored and cruising is pretty limited at the moment. On the other hand, I'm ready for global warming and rising water levels.

The garnet and gold (I think locally we call that red and yellow) could be a problem. I think there's a border inspection at the county line you have to pass and they do check for unauthorized bumper stickers, hats and logos.

I do have a dirty little secret that I can reveal since this is a very discrete forum. My wife and I are both gator grads but she got her masters at FSU so her blue and orange blood was somewhat contaminated. We keep that a big secret from our friends in town.

I hang out with a bunch of power boat captains in a local bar. That's where it gets you. Welcome.

Re: Not your average CF member...

Welcome to CF Capt.Alex. There is no normal on this forum, so if your not normal you will fit in just fine. I too earn my living with power vessels, but the smaller ones around 32,000 ton displacement. Friends of mine just transited the Panama Canal on their Nordhavn 43 and are in Golfito, Costa Rica right now. Plenty of power boaters on this forum.

Re: Not your average CF member...

Welcome, Alex... I went the other way. After years of cruising under sail and living aboard, health and physical issues forced us on to a powerboat for about 5 years. Now living in the high desert which is working out OK. As you go through life, just keep the pedal to the metal for as long as you can... karma will put fuel in your tank! Cheers, Phil

Aloha and welcome aboard!
In Lake Wobegone Garrison Keeler said that the "women were all good looking and the men were all above average."
GordMay will correct that quote I'm certain.
I think CF members are way above average.
kind regards,
