Noob Intro . . .

Greetings to all from a complete noob to not only the forum, but sailing as well.

I recently retired from the U.S. Army after surviving 20 years of service and am currently researching adopting life aboard a cruiser and attempting to live atop the seas.

Goals:

1. Find a cruiser suitable for sailing the world safely in relative comfort.
2. Identify suitable training facilities to get professional / experienced instruction in proper sailing technique.
3. Gain experience by conducting coastal passages around the U.S.
4. Sail the world...



I look forward to garnering insight and wisdom from those of you that have "been there and done that".

Thank you for your service. In a few months it'll be 20 years since I retired from the Navy. Time flies when you are busier than a one armed paper hanger.
Just as a suggestion I would put your number 2 item in front of your number 1 item by taking a basic sailing class to see if it is to your liking.
Many coastal military installations (and some inland) offer sailing lessons. Some even rent small boats for you to practice your newly acquired skills. I learned at an Army MWR in Cheimsee, Germany many years ago. Any military installation will honor your newly acquired retired military ID Card.

One of the things I am researching is the viability of using military mooring / marina's in hopes that it may be a bit cheaper than others. Access to the PX etc...
