Newbie question

Ahoy All - just joined and have a question - what are the stars under the members name for and also the anchors beside the discussion threads?

Randy,

Welcome to the forum! The stars start out all white and turn yellow as the number of posts you add reach certain levels. I forget how many it takes. Sorry no valuable prizes for reaching the levels just colored starts. if you post more then Gord May you can have your name listed a top poster. You'll also see your post count under your popeye avatar. It appears you have figured out how to set up all your information so it means you are indeed good to go.

Lots of people, things being discussed, and far away destinations but if you don't find it already here start a new one.The search tool does a good job looking in every back corner for anything you might want.

Anchors next to threads are white where the section does not contain new posts since you last visit and yelow where there is something new. The home page portal will show just recent posts and Show bold titales on threads that you have not read and regualr font for those you have visited.

Aloha Randy,
Welcome aboard!! This is a great forum. It took me awhile to figure out the star thing too. I know that between you get your 4th star at 500 posts and your 5th star at 1000 posts. The first star turns gold pretty quickly and it gets progressively harder to gain those colored stars.
The reason I have so many is that I search out newbies and send them a welcome message each time I see a meets and greets such as yours.
I hope you enjoy this forum. There certainly is a lot to learn here.
There are a few other Irwin sailors here.
Kind Regards,
JohnL

Aloha Again Benny,
I guess I was wrong. David has 4 gold stars and 254 posts. Maybe its 250 for 4 and 1000 for 5. Oh well. You can see I don't really know what I'm talking about. LOL

It must seem that way, but it's actually your eyesight failing a bit every day when you look in the mirror in the morning.

Wait, someone's math doesn't add up here: I'm at 300 posts and some change, and have 4 stars lit up…

Welcome aboard Benny,

There are two sets of stars. If you goto the FAQ's at the top of the page that will answer a lot of the questions about the format.

Welcome Benny - I can see you'll fit right in. Lots of Irwin owners aboard, along with the similar Endeavours. Enjoy!
