Newbie from Jax, FL - Annapolis 30, Rhodes design

Hello everyone!

I'm new member to this board and I hope I find a lots of good info and maybe even makes some friends on this forum while I'm getting very close to fulfill my childhood dream of owning a sailboat. I might become a proud owner (who will have to put a lots of TLC and $$ in making it seaworthy again) of Annapolis 30, Rhodes design.

I'm sure I will have many questions but right now I'm wondering if there are some current (or past) owners of this sailboat? Does anybody have some drawings or any printed material pertaining to Annapolis 30. Anything that you can share with me about this beautiful boat will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you all in advance and happy sailing!

Thank you very much. If I decide to take up on this task, I'll provide more info and pictures. It seams that this particular design was very much forgotten/lost in time. Apparently they made only 36 of these because Rhodes sued the builder (Olsen Marine Products, Annapolis, MD) because they were not following the original specs.

I have found some extra info on the Internet and here are the links:

Mvelimir, Welcome to the forum and the neighborhood! We plan to be at the Jax Landing from mid-saturday to mid-sunday and then sailing down to Green Cove before returning to Fleming Island. The St. Johns is our home port, but were heading out for New England in 11 days. Maybe we'll see you on the water. There's much to offer the cruiser on the St. Johns.

mvelimir, honestjoe here, I own a Annapolis 30 (Rhodes). Am working on it now. This is my first larger sailboat and I have a lot to learn. I think I finally found out why they discontinued this one. "the design called for solid fiberglass under a deck stepped mast. The builder made a cored structure of a balsa sandwich. When water penetrated, the balsa deteriorated. In at least one case the mast came right down through the deck and stopped on the top of the keel." I am going to look into this. If you find any info on this boat I am interested. Thanks, Joe

This is usually the time someone jumps in and points out that this thread has been stale for five years. I'd like to beat the timing of that message and say that old threads often revive with new information and new questions. There's never any real harm in responding to something old.

Oh, ......and Joe, Welcome to the community.
