Newbie & Falmouth Gypsy MkII Owner

Good Afternoon folks!

Just signed up to the site last night and looking forward to learning and sharing tips with you folks

I want to see whether there are any other "Gypsy" owners out there?!?

After purchasing the boat a few months back, I'm needing to do some fairly extensive repairs on the superstructure and would like to chat to owners who've had to do this in the past. The Hull is in great condition but I'm getting water ingress during heavy down pours and consequently need to replace most of the interior which has suffered from neglect over the years.

It's also fitted with a SABB G Series marine diesel which I've spent the past year researching. I'd class myself as a beginner-intermediate DIY mechanic who's still learning about this engine, but again I'm looking to speak to owners that are running the Series G engine.

Hi.... can't help much on the engine and sounds like just about everything including hatches etc need resealing but...
Welcome to CF.... I'm pretty sure there's a few owners on here... ones in OZ I think... lotsa knowledge here....

Thanks Boatman, yeah there's some sort of matting across the wooden superstructure which is in pretty poor state and will need ripped up... I'm thinking of taking it back to just the beams and hull then making the interior and roof to suit my own ideas. Great wee boat and and really stable in bad weather. I also got a truck with HIAB to bring it up to the house and sit it on the driveway, so I can work away without having to run back and forth to the boatyard Not to mention I'm saving a ton of cash on winter storage!!! I have one; they are great little boats. Not that fast, but will deal with big waves OK, and they have loads of charm. Loads of flat deck space for lazing around on in the sun when you get there, and the enormous main hatch is like a great big sunroof

Mine is in good nick because someone fibreglassed in the deck ages ago - well worth doing

I have a Saab G manual I could scan if you need it.
My one had a head rebuild 10 years ago, and in the spring it will start first time within 2s even after no use for six months. Noisy, but very reliable. Don't replace it with some dodgy modern unit

I just got one (for free) and it sounds like mine is in an comparable condition as yours. Mine is from 1973.

I have the same engine, mine runs but has some clunking noises, will overhaul it this year. Wondering if someone still has a manual of the engine since I can’t find anything about it.

Wondering how your refitting process went or if you damped the boat on a scrap yard?

I sold my Gypsy and the manual went with her.
But Sabb still exist and publish the manuals here:

Thank you for that two links and thank you for the good luck. The boats should most help me to get back into sailing (after a break of almost 20 years) and to watch dolphins closer (to take pictures) since they int come close enough to the coast here.
