new to this world

Hello all!
I am actually still just peeking through the window at this world of sailing and cruising. I have been through the Bahamas on a 30 foot power boat and have worked in the pleasure boat industry, but most of my experience is with fishing. Sailing has been of great interest to me, though, and I am coming into a period in my life that I may get to do a little. Hopefully one day I can tell others of my trans-ocean voyages, too! I love classic lines in sailboats with full keels (folkboats, j-class, alberg 30). I am young now (mid-twenties) with a short career behind me and a wide open future. I also have a partner eager for some adventure. Writing is my passion and I hope that one day sailing and passage-making adventures can be some of my topics. Thanks for letting me into the forum!

You already know about going no place and already being there. You were meant to sail. You don't have to cross great oceans to do this. You just have to think that way. It's like fishing but faster. The really cool part is you can still fish.

For myself, I am a fish eater not a fish catcher.

Aloha CSL,
Welcome aboard. You've picked some pretty designs as your favorites. I tend that direction myself. Our club has two International Folkboats and they sail beautifully.
Kind Regards,
JohnL

I was wondering about trolling while cruising. When you get a decent fish on under sail, is it practical to heave-to while the angler fights it? Or do you just have to do the best you can with limited maneuverability? My dream would be to sail to far off bonefish flats though and spend all day out in the dinghy wading them! What an awesome new world to combine with fishing!

You can heave to, drop your sails, start the engine and backdown but it is really hard to do it all at once without a big crew.
Kind Regards,
JohnL
