New to the island of Kauai!

Hey everyone I guess posting an introductory post seemed about right. I just left CA and moved to Kauai and I'm new to sailing but trying to get into much much more.

My experience is limited and I've only ever sailed around Chesapeake Bay in VA for a few hours at a time on what I think were lasers? Just small boats though nothing ever bigger than maybe 9 ft.

I of course want to try and get a boat in these next few years on the island to live aboard and eventually with enough experience take around to the other islands and beyond!!

See you in the forums!!

Good luck man. I would love to be able to do the same thing, sort of stuck in Vermont for another 8 years or so due to career.

I can only remember two moorages on the island, at Hanapepe bay and Nawiliwili Bay. Nawiliwili is the larger one and has a yacht club and work area. The members are knowledgeable and friendly. They could be a big help to you.

Re: New to the island of Kauai!

Welcome! They race Thursday night at Nawiliwili Yacht Club. If you want to sail, that's pretty much the only gig in town. If you talk to the cruisers on the hook on Hanalei Bay, you might find some crew opportunities, but mostly they stay put until they're ready to leave.

Howdy and Welcome Aboard CF Redbeard.

Kauai is a beautiful place. Sailing into Hanalei Bay at dawn and seeing the many tall waterfalls on the mountains is an unforgettable sight.

There is a vast amount of information here and many helpful members who have extensive experience.

My Favorite CF Forum Tip: Use the Google Custom Search Function

I know that most people who are new to this forum might try the ordinary search function of the forum when they have a question in mind. Unfortunately that always yielded few resultsi for me when I tried that when I first joined this forum. In contrast, a standard Google search outside of the forum can produce a bewildering list of links too. It was only later that I learned to quickly and easily find great links to archived or previous threads on a topic.

I only use the Google Custom Search field on this forum when searching this forum, and I find all the answers I need here too using that.

I find it superior to an ordinary search using the standard "search" field and usually get the answers I want very quickly. So, it is my "number one tip" to newer forum members. .

Note! The Google Custom Search field is found under the "Search" menu seen at the top of your browser window when you are in the CF forum on any page. However, it is NOT shown as an option if you are viewing the Forum site using the CF Mobile app. Use a browser like Safari instead.

Ahoy All Sailors! I love traditional sailboats of all kinds (e.g. gaff rigged, schooners, cutters, smacks, woodies, etc.). See my CF Profile "About Me" page for details.
