New to sailing, so lets get started...

Hello to all I am new to the sailing world and boating community. I live in south Florida Gulf side, and have had a fascination with power yachts. But, as I joined another sailing forum and this one as well, I am rethinking my thoughts of owning a motor yacht.
Since I am new to all this and I am getting use to the sailing language. I am getting really hooked on catamaran sailing boats. I do have so many questions but a lot of them get answered as read different post's in different sections. A little back ground on me, Since I have lived in Florida the water is so addicting. I do see myself owning something soon. I have an a/c background and very maintenance oriented.
I can do a lot of the work myself and hopefully meet sailors along the way with experience in all different ways from sailing to living aboard. I plan on taking a sailing school and renting sail boats to get experience, and if I am still bit, well then owning one. I have 2 smaller kids who can't wait for Daddy to get his boat.
The thought of all that adventure just waiting for us to explore gives me goose bumps just thinking about it. Sailing can't be that hard, as I can pick things up fast. I want to learn as much as I can, time I have a money tree I don't. I can't wait to get started...

Aloha and welcome aboard!
You're right, sailing can't be that hard but sailing well can be a lifetime lesson. I'd recommend the book "Start Sailing Right." I would also recommend a Basic Sailing Class. Walking the docks at a marina and talking with the old timers can help you choose a good boat.
Good luck in your new pursuit.
kind regards,

Welcome aboard! I started out into power yachts as well, but the athlete in me quickly took a liking to sailing. I'd definitely take some lessons first, and even getting into a mild form of racing is another way to quickly start learning.
