New to Group

Hi. My name is Bob Gebeaux. I live on the northern neck of Virginia (Montross) I currently have a Bristol 29.9 sail boat (Hull number 1) which is located on the potomac river at the port kinsale marina. I am thinking about getting into a diesel trawler and doing some inland crusing or into the bahamas. I have been a sailor for many years and have cruised and lived aboard sailboats for around 30 years. my last "big" boat was a tayana 37 I sailed into the caribbean/bahamas. I am retired from the US navy and spent a lot of time at sea on larger ships including command at sea of a navy salvage vessell during the viet nam war timeframe. I am an amateur radio operator (ka3ocs).

I am looking forward to sharing information and hearing what everyone has to say

Re: New to group

Hi Bob, and welcome to the best sailing forum on the net.
I’m also ex navy, same era, and we spent a couple of years living right on the Potomac, just off the GW Parkway between Alexandria and Mt. Vernon before we moved up to North Potomac Md.
During our DC area stint, we kept our boat in Baltimore and greatly enjoyed the Chesapeake and points way further south so I know the area well.
I’m sure you are going to find a wealth of freely shared advice and experiences on this forum and although I’m horrified that you would even consider trading sail for an oil burner, I wish you well in your future adventures…James
