New to cruising, in MN

Hi all. I've been casually dreaming about a trip on the Great Loop for a few months now, mostly just here to dream. It's out of my budget, both cash and time, for the next five or ten years unless the lotto tickets come in. Would like to pick up a simple, mid-20s foot trawler to enjoy on Lake Superior soon.

You're not likely to see me post too often, mostly I'll just be lurking.

Howdy and Welcome Aboard CF!

I encourage you to go to Youtube and view the videos by SMACKSMAN1 that show how he purchased (on Ebay as I recall) an older, inexpensive motor yacht (an Albin Family Cruiser 27 footer as I recall) and then used it to travel a long part of the Great Loop. He used it to go from Charleston to New Orleans. Inspiration to show you or anyone how it could be done on a low budget. His other videos are worth watching too. He first bought a small sailboat on ebay, and went from New England to Florida in it. Then he purchased the motor cruiser (he said it was more comfortable and more fitting for the ICW travel).

Hope that helps!

Bon Voyage!

I wouldn't limit it to a trawler for Lake Superior. Do you intend to sleep on it? How many people aboard? Have you set a budget? There are a lot of different type boats that might fit your needs. Share a little more and we'll try to assist you.
