New to Board, Need boat!!!

Hello,

We currently own a 24' shamrock powerboat which we use offshore fishing from 30 miles to 90 miles offshore. We are thinking about selling it to purchase a 27-30 foot sailboat. I would love to have something we can cruise along the Texas and Mexico's coastline.

I grew up sailing everything from a sunfish to my fathers 27' Island Packet and have quite a few hours of water sailing">blue water sailing.

I am married with 2 kids, 9 and 2 and need room to keep everyone happy. I've been looking at the older 30' S2 center console, which seems to have quite a bit of room. Is this boat built well enough to handle rough sea conditions? Is there something comparable that I should look at?

This is a great forum and look forward to being part of the group.

Steve

Do you mean center cockpit? It would help the old hands on the forum to know an approximate budget for the boat.

Welcome aboard.

Yes, center cockpit. Approximate budget would be below 40k. Also looking at the 27' cape dory and 27' compac yacht; not as roomy though.

Thanks!

I have a high opinion of Cape Dory. Assuming it has been well maintained, they are well built little boats. I have several friend who own them and are quite happy with them.

Aloha Steve,
Welcome aboard! The largest interior I've seen for a 30 footer is the Newport 30. Pretty certain it would handle what your purpose would be if it had newer rigging and sails. If you could get one at a reduced rate then you'll be able to spend some money getting her some new rigging and sails. Good luck in your search.
Kind Regards,
JohnL

Welcome aboard Steve.

I wish you good luck in finding yourself a sailboat in the range of 27 to 30 feet.

I don't know if you are intersted; but I have a Pearson 36, 1973, with new Yanmar engine and many upgrades. Looking to sell it at any time before next June, 2008. I have a boat moving up to CT at that time and I don't want to have 2 boats at one time.

Got a Morgan 36 O/I for sale behind my house...Brand new Perkins 4-108. (not a typo, brand new)

Asking 23K US.

(Not my boat, renting the dock)

A guy across the canal is selling a 63' ketch for $25K.
Lots of room down below...And I mean lots...

CSY Man,
Any more info on that 63' ketch? That sounds too good to be real. Is it still floating? For 23K, I would consider buying as a liveaboard, and having a 2nd boat for sailing.

Could you post a photo of it?? Thanks,

RichT.
