Hey folks- New to the board- Good to meet you all! Just purchased a 1970 Allied Luders 33. Anyone here sail one? It would be great to talk to other owners!

Welcome to Cruiser Forum!

I think there are a few. We have Friends with an Allied Sea Breeze. A little longer and a yawl but the Allied boats are mostly still out there and sailing. Not all the boats that old can say that.

You should check google for a owners group. Owners groups are very productive as far as issues and dealing with them. Who but an owner would say the truth and how to deal with it?

Robin Lee Graham finished his famous single-handed circumnavigation aboard "Retun of Dove" - a Ludders 33!

Aloha Don,
Welcome aboard! There is one here in Hawaii on Oahu owned by a forum member. He'll probably respond soon. I think they are great boats because they have two good names, "Allied" and "Luders."
Kind regards,
JohnL

I love my Luders 33. Mainly Chesapeake boat for now, but plan to take up to New England and down South when time permits.

Surprisingly fast for her vintage if sailed properly, and very solid in big breeze and waves. She is pretty tender initially because of narrow beam, but this design characteristic makes her easily driven. I experience minimal weather helm and full control even when heeled over 35-40 degrees going upwind. This is not the case on newer designs!

Obviously a solid boat, and a head turner as well

Enjoy!

Thanks Malbert73,
We love the boat also. We're new at sailing and are fortunate to have some good teachers at our marina. Trying to get some work done on her this Winter and be ready to sail again in Spring. I'm thinking about losing the pilot's berth and setting the seat back a bit with storage above. We're up the Potomac about 20 miles, where in MD are you? There's another L33 right down the river from us.
