New.. Sort of. How about a reintroduction.

Hello. I joined the forum in 2009 but it looks like I have a whopping 8 posts so I thought I'd "reintroduce" myself given my inactivity.

Proud owner of Chotto, a Slocum 43 that I salvaged/saved and is at this point, virtually new. The original owner, after sailing around the world, lived on it and let it go to pot. Unfortunately, he had Alzheimer's and was pulled off the boat before it sunk. Having sailed on slocum's and loving the boats, I negotiated a purchase with his trustee and went to work. About a year of intense work later and she was sea worthy again. Now I'm just doing the little stuff and the nice to have stuff to make her more comfortable and easier to single hand.

I've been sailing on and off since I was 12. I lost track of all the boats I've owned in the mean time. I primarily sail out of Galveston bay but have quite a bit of offshore time with various trips to Mexico, Florida and a few points beyond. I even has a chance to sail while living in the UK some time ago.

I'm now retired, and due to an inner ear disease, mostly deaf, but with cochlear implants I get along ok.

Planning a trip next spring to Florida for a few months. Probably just the ft Meyers area, hit the keys, out to the dry tortugas then home before hurricane season kicks into gear.

Hey! Slocum boats, very nice. We are in a doubleender too. Glad to hear from people who love sailing, and boats!

As a fellow Hundtingford-designed boat owner, it's great to hear from you. I've never seen, let alone sailed, a Slocum 43, but looking at the lines and the specs, she looks like a great boat. Good on you for bringing her back from the dead.

Been there, done that. Spend lots of time in Boot Key Harbor. Highly recommend you stop there. Lots of good folks and many interesting things going on.

I enjoyed the Dry Torgugas but not really good anchorages. Diving and fishing is great. I could spend at least a couple of days in the fort. I spent almost a week going from Key West to the Dry Torgugas stopping at Boca Grande and the Marques and highly recommend you visit both places.

Welcome to CF.
