I have been to Iloilo during danagyan (sp?) a couple of times and have seen the regatta. I put emphasis on "have seen" because the boats sport the most beautifully colored sails I have ever had the pleasure of seeing. Each was literally a work of art! From what I remember, it was a highly competitive event too.

Better to be anchored at a safe depth in a monohull than scooting around at high tide in a catamaran!
