New Searunner Owner

Hello, I am the new owner of a Searunner 37 formerly known as Stickwitch, located in Hawaii. Since i bought this boat with the proceeds of a job i had
in the Ivanpah Valley in the California Mojave Desert, Ivanpah is the new name of the vessel. i never met the previous owner as he left the boat for the hospital and never returned so there is a lot to be done to prepare for my eventual trip southwesterly.
i have lived on a Searunner 40 for 6 weeks in the Caribbean a number of decades ago and loved it and lived on other boats 6 months a year for 4 years up and down the chain so i have some cruising experience but little true blue water.
i mostly learned to sail on a 25 footer cruising the inside passages of SE Alaska a few weeks at a time when i lived in Alaska. more recently i have sailed my 5o year old wooden sloop on Lake Superior every summer.
I expect to need plenty of advice over the coming months. i will probably be installing Li batteries because of posts i have read already.

Could you tell us more about what condition the boat was in when you got it, what jobs need to be done before you can sail away, and (if it's not too much to ask) what you paid for her? I'm always curious about these things. I hope you got a great deal.

hi to all who replied, Ivanpah is on a mooring in Keehi lagoon. i paid about $14,000 for her. thanks for all the good wishes. i am sure that i will be needing them. don

i forgot to reread Cormorant's msg before i replied so i have a few more answers. the boat is quite solid and the standing rigging is good. the main and furling genoa are shot. almost everything else needs at least some work as the owner seemed to be in the middle of a number of projects including installing a new electric head. the electric system is primitive and will pretty much completely redone, altho it will still be relatively simple. i hope to have little AC equipment. there is something hanging off the transom that appears to be an auxiliary rudder for a windvane, but none of the rest of the parts. at some point i will be taking and distributing a photo to see if someone can recognize it for me. don

Being in Keehi you have access to a lot of marine facilities so that's great. Only thing to be a downside is the jet exhaust.
