Hi we are wanting to buy a cat and go crusing we have two little girls 4 and 5 we are thinking Fontaine 56'.
We are selling our beautiful 59acer farm in Bellingen Australia to fund the project.
Is the Fontaine a good boat for the job?
Is the boat too big as we don't have lots of experence?

Hi and welcome to the forum I have some experiance with hobby cats and some bigger ones but if you could get a 56' new I would look into a MANTA 42 it's a little bit smaller but it could be sailed by your girls if they can read. It was designed for single handed sailing and is ready for a circumnav. I requested a price for one and they sell in sailaway condition for 530k US. They are worth a look.

Hello, andy and jayne.

Welcome to Cruisers Forum. There's a lot of info on cats in our archives. Try using this custom search engine to find a little reading material until some catamaran experts jump in with comments for you.

Aloha Andy and Jayne,
Welcome aboard! You've opened yourselves up for lots of opinions. I think the boat you are wishing for is way too big but that's just my opinion. I had friends who did their cruising with their two little girls on a Celestial 46 and another couple I knew cruised with their kids on a Kelly Petersen 44. These, of course, were monohull boats but certainly very manageable for a family.
Kind regards,
JohnL
