This is just to introduce myself as a
new member of the forum. I am a UK based retired British Airways B747
captain living in Port Solent marina. I have 48,000 nms logged and hold a UK Ocean Yachtmaster for
power and sail with a lapsed Yachtmaster Instructor endorsement. My sailing areas include the Southern Ocean rounding Cape Horn,
Australia, NZ,
Brazil,
Caribbean, North Atlantic, Eastern US Seaboard, Eastern
Med, and Western
Europe.
In 1996/7 I crewed on "Time and Tide" in the BT Global Challenge - a
race around the world against the prevailing winds. "T&T" was unique as the entire crew were either disabled or had survived a life threatening illness. Our book is called "On Equal Terms". Crewmate Paul Burns, an amputee who survived the Warrenpoint Massacre, has recently published his life story "A Fighting Spirit"
In 2000, along with the late David Sinnet-Jones, I re-enacted the voyage of Joshua Slocum's "Liberdade" and sailed her
single handed from
Antigua to Norfolk, Virginia. David's life story is the book "Passion For Life".
I have recently
sold my
Cheoy Lee but am a shareholder in a yacht syndicate with three yachts based here in Port Solent.

I look forward to sharing the knowledge of members of the forum.
Fair winds,
Mike
