Post New Member New Sailor

Hi Everyone,
My wife and I, the Trever's, are bitten by the bug. We have dreams (and a building, documented, game plan) on how to get to the cruising life sooner than later (we have a 2 yr old and 8 yr old, but, I'm 38 and wife is only 26 (don't judge the 8 yr old is a stepchild from previous marriage, and we're all friends :-)). We want to sail the world, most likely ending up as permanent live aboards.
But, we figured the first step was learning to sail. We are currently land lock in Colorado Springs but just bought a (we hope) lake worthy 19ft 1981 Oday. I think it's a sloop but still learning. I know it's a centerboard with a keel that swings down (but don't think technically it's a swing keel, i dunno). There's some top side water intrusion but we hope it's limited to just the topside. I've definitely found a couple topside ingress points to deal with. We're excited to keep the snow off of the tarp and are ready for the spring season to start on Pueblo Lake.
We are starting small but this is our dream, and one we might have to snatch at sooner than later. I work in IT and my wife is a teacher, the pennies are being pinched..
If you have any words of wisdom, advice, or other suggestions we're happy to listen and respond.
